Formada a comienzos de la década de 1980 por Pedro Romero y Javier Avellaneda "Vieja" en las guitarras, Fernando Batoni en el bajo y Ernesto Rodríguez -sustituido al año siguiente por Félix Avellaneda "Pepe"- en la batería, con clara influencia del rock gótico británico (post punk y dark), en 1988 se une a la banda el guitarrista Álvaro Segura. Luego, Zapato 3 quedó constituido como trío, con Javier Avellaneda -quien se desempeñó también como vocalista-, Segura y Batoni.
