He began his career as a guitar instructor, teaching students who later achieved prominence, including Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, and Alex Skolnick. From the mid-1980s onward, he established a successful solo career as an instrumental rock artist. He has received multiple Grammy Award nominations and has sold over ten million albums worldwide.

Joe also played at the Woodbine Inn, Pensauken, NJ. Right before the Boston show, can't remember the date but it was snowing, middle January 1988
