D'Angelo (born Michael Eugene Archer February 11, 1974 - October 14, 2025) was a R&B/Neo-soul musician who first rose to prominence as a member of the Black Men United (B.M.U.) music collective, writing their only released song "U Will Know" in 1994. He dropped his debut album "Brown Sugar" followed in 1995 and his sophomore album "Voodoo" in 2000. D'Angelo then disappeared from the public eye. In 2012, he returned to the stage and began touring again. In 2014, he released his third and final studio album "Black Messiah" as "D'Angelo and the Vanguard". After touring in support of the album, he retired from the stage a second time, He only performed two more times in his life (once in 2021 and again in 2022). D'Angelo passed away from pancreatic cancer on October 14, 2025. He was 51 years old.
