Date:
Wednesday, June 02, 1976
Venue:
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
Location:
Santa Monica, California, United States
Notes:

As far as I know, this was Thin Lizzy’s first LA concert. I had already heard excellent things about Journey, but had never seen them. This is early Journey, a heavy space Prog rock band. Their amplifiers were set up to show a planetary space scene. They rocked, and they were loud and heavy. Way before Steve Perry. All their songs were extended, they stole the show.

This was the night that Greg Ginn and I decided we were going to start a band. We'd called ourselves Panic but there was a French band of the same name so we chose Black Flag. As for this show we went to see Thin Lizzy but also to check out Journey. I worked part time in a record store in Hermosa Beach where the owner had Prog Rock on the turntable every second or third album while I was there. Thus our fascination with early Journey. Thin Lizzy were great and they definitely gave us the kick that was needed to set our wheels in motion. Thank you Journey and Thin Lizzy!
