Obituary is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1984. Initially named Executioner, the band changed its name to Xecutioner before adopting the name Obituary. They are considered one of the foundational acts in the development of death metal. The band has released eleven studio albums and, except for a hiatus from 1998 to 2003, continues to perform live.
