The band's name refers to the biblical Nephilim and to the concept of magnetic fields around the Earth. In 1985, the band released the 12-inch EP "Burning the Fields" on their own Tower Release label, which was subsequently reissued through Jungle Records, leading to further studio recordings that formed the "Returning to Gehenna" EP.
