Johnny Mathis (b. John Royce Mathis, September 30, 1935) is one of the most influential and best-selling singers of the 20th century. He began his career in the mid 1950s, singing in New York City nightclubs. In 1956, he released his first of over 70 studio albums. Throughout the 20th century, he toured extensively, but in 2000 began limiting his number of performances. On May 18, 2025, he performed his final concert. All subsequent shows on his 2025 tour were cancelled as Mathis formally retired from touring. Mathis remains one of Columbia Record's longest-tenured artists and has been awarded with numerous accolades including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), induction into the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame (2014), and many others.
