He has been cited as an influential figure in hip-hop for his technical skill, lyricism, and stage presence. His song “Ain’t No Half-Steppin’” was included on Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time, where he was described as a prominent artist of hip-hop’s late 1980s era and an influence on later generations of rappers.
