Sly was the Family Stone was formed in Oakland, California in 1966 when brothers Sly and Freddie Stone who combined their respective bands Sly & the Stoners and Freddie & the Stone Souls. Sly Stone remained the frontman of the new band until its formal disbandment in 1983. In addition to Freddie and Sly, other core members of the band included their sister Rose Stone as well as Cynthia Robinson, Greg Errico, Jerry Martini, and Larry Graham. By 1975, only Sly Stone remained. In 1983, the group had disbanded entirely. The group reunited in 2006 to perform at a tribute show at that year's Grammy Awards and continued performing periodically over the next couple of decades. Rose Stone passed away in 2015 with Sly following in 2025.

Saw Sly/Family Stone in 1972 at the Dane County Coliseum in Madison, WI. Trying to get info on that event, particularly who the warm-up artist. Could have been '71. Anyone?
