Mike Hill has likened the group's sound to being more black metal inspired than sludge metal. He has named bands such as Neurosis, Swans, Joy Division, Darkthrone, Black Flag, Deathspell Omega, Leviathan, and Bauhaus, among others, as being influential to their sound.
