After dropping out of Florida State University, he moved to Nashville and joined a band, which performed at the Wildhorse Saloon, and signed to a songwriting contract with Warner/Chappell. His debut single, Ferris Wheel, was included on a six-song digital extended play and released on May 31, 2011.
