Sponge is an alternative/post-grunge band from Detroit, formed in 1991. All original members, except for original drummer Jimmy Paluzzi, were a part of the hard rock band Loudhouse. Paluzzi left Sponge in 1994. Drummer-turned-vocalist Vinnie Dombroski became the frontman of Sponge after their previous band's demise. He remains the only founding member still in the band today.
