Fleetwood Mac is a pop-folk-blues rock band that formed in London in 1967. The following year, the band released its self-titled debut album. Over the next several years, there were regular changes in the line-up but by 1975, a stable lineup emerged with Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, John and Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. Buckingham left in 1987 followed by Nicks in 1991 and McVie in 1995. After McVie's departure, the band broke up for a couple of years but reunited in 1997 with all members of the core lineup returning. However, McVie left in 1998 after the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She rejoined in 2014. Buckingham left the band a second time in 2018. Green passed away in 2020 followed by McVie on November 30, 2022.

Fleetwood Mac debuted on August 13, 1967 when they performed for the first time under the name “Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, also featuring Jeremy Spencer.” On February 24, 1968, the band released their debut album titled simply Fleetwood Mac.
Though Buckingham had officially left in 1987 and Nicks in 1990, the band picked up new members and continued performing until 1995 when Christine informed the band that she was also leaving. This led to the band’s official breakup. Fortunately, they got back together only two years later.
When Fleetwood Mac first debuted, it was primarily a blues band. However, when Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined in 1974, Fleetwood Mac’s sound shifted significantly.
In 1975, when the band released a second self-titled album, it had embraced a unique pop rock sound. Over the subsequent decades, the band integrated elements of harder rock, folk rock, and more experimental art pop into their repertoire.

Brunning was only in the band for a few weeks before he was replaced by John McVie while Green left in 1970 due to drug addiction and Spencer left in 1971 when he joined the Children of God cult.
Christine McVie replaced Green in 1970. Attempts to replace Jeremy Spencer, however, were fraught with difficulties. Bob Welch, Bob Weston, and David Walker all performed with Fleetwood Mac between 1968 and 1974, but their time with the band was short lived.
On New Year’s Eve of 1974 that Stevie Nicks became the lead female vocalist and keyboardist while Lindsay Buckingham joined as the lead male vocalist and guitarist. Buckingham stayed with the band until 1987 while Nicks remained until 1990. Several musicians tried to perform in their place, but when Christine Mcvie quit in 1995, the band formally disbanded.
After reuniting in 1997, Buckingham remained with the band until 2018 when he left a second time. Shortly thereafter, Mike Campbell joined the band on lead guitar and Neil Finn joined as lead male vocalist and rhythm guitarist.
Fleetwood Mac experienced moderate fame during the late 1960s and ‘70s. After the second self-titled album with Nicks and Buckingham dropped in 1975, the band shot to international stardom. While they arguably experienced their greatest popularity throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Fleetwood Mac remains a popular band to this day.
When the band first performed in 1967, they called themselves “Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, also featuring Jeremy Spencer.” The name included each of the member’s names (Mac being short for McVie). However, neither Green nor Spencer wanted their name used as part of the band’s name, so it was shortened to just “Fleetwood Mac.”
Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974. She left the band in 1990 due to a dispute with Mick Fleetwood but rejoined in 1997 when the band officially reformed after its official breakup in 1995.
Lindsey Buckingham was ‘dismissed' from the band in 2018 because, according to the band, he would not go on a tour that the band had been planning for a year and a half. There was also a disagreement about how the band would include Buckingham's material in the tour.
Stevie Nicks wrote the song "Dreams" during the recording of the album Rumours. All band members were having relationship issues at that time, and so the song is aptly about ending relationships.
Stevie Nicks wrote "Landslide" in 1973, but it came out in 1975 as part of the second Fleetwood Mac album. The song is about Nicks's relationship with her father.
