Poison began as a band called “Paris” in the early 1980s in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1983, the band moved west to Los Angeles with a new name: “Poison.”

Poison was formed in 1983 when original band members moved to Los Angeles and begin seeking out a record deal. It took three years, but the band released their debut album Look What the Cat Dragged In on May 23, 1986.

Three of Poison’s founding members are still with the band:

• Bret Michaels: lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and occasional harmonica player
• Bobby Dall: bassist, pianist, and backing vocalist
• Rikki Rockett: drummer and backing vocalist

Matt Smith was the lead guitarist of Poison between 1983 and 1985 when he was replaced by C.C. DeVille.

Poison’s first name as a band was Paris. But, when they moved to Los Angeles, they officially changed their name to Poison.

“Every Rose Has Its Thorn” is a rock ballad written and sung by the band Poison. It was released in 1988 and was the third single on the band’s second album Open Up and Say…Ahh!”.
