Simon Robinson > I was at this show, which took place at Union House (also known as Union Hall), the student union building of Portsmouth Polytechnic. The venue was a former Territorial Army drill hall, very large and echo-filled, which made Black Sabbath’s performance incredibly loud. The sound carried for miles, and people in the area lodged numerous complaints. As a result, concerts were banned at the venue until it was soundproofed. This was part of Sabbath’s early 1970 tour, just after their debut album. A truly unforgettable show. #BlackSabbath #Portsmouth #UnionHouse #1970 #LiveMusicHistory Black Sabbath Jul 26, 2025

Bob Grande I remember that the James Gang was the featured act to close out a music festival that featured several mostly local area bands as I recall. The James Gang didn't come on stage until about 9:45 PM that night and Waterbury had a 10 PM sound curfew. I was so disappointed I only heard them perform the 2 songs. I remember Joe left his guitar leaning against the amp speakers feeding back as he left the stage after "The Bomber". James Gang Jul 26, 2025
