Bar-Kay Members Perished: Jimmie King (Guitar, age 18) Ronnie Caldwell (Organ, age 18) Phalon Jones (Saxophone, age 19) Carl Cunningham (Drums, age 18) The Lone Survivor: Ben Cauley (Trumpet) survived by unbuckling his seatbelt just before impact and clinging to a seat cushion in the freezing water. The Absent Member: James Alexander (Bassist) was not on the flight because the small plane only held eight people; it was his turn to take a commercial flight.  Brucefan24 Facebook post: December 30, 1968: Led Zeppelin performed at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Opening for Vanilla Fudge. It was Zeppelin's second US gig. They had to drive through a treacherous zero-visibility snowstorm from Dencer for the gig. John Bonham was also acting as the band's driver for the tour, so he could make extra money to send to his family.
