Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen The Avalon was always so laid back; free apples and incense...lots of brotherly love. We had already seen the Doors in January, but they were now performing songs from the 2nd album, Strange Days, that would soon be released. We always enjoyed Country Joe's music....we played some of his songs in our local band in Burlingame. But the surprise of this show had to be the Sparrow, who later became known as Steppenwolf; with songs, Born To Be Wild, the Pusher, and more The Doors / Sparrow / Country Joe and the Fish Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen This was a surprise concert that I never expected. My friends told me we were all going out to a nice restaurant to celebrate my birthday......I was pleasantly surprised when we reached our final destination. I am an avid fan of Sting....he has immense talent for songwriting and performing. He always gathers the best musicians around Vinne Colaiuta on drums, Kenny Kirkland on keys, Bradford Marsalis on sax.....doesn't get any better than that. I love the complexity of Sting's songs......they are so engaging! Sting Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen Some of the best blues guitarist around.....Robben Ford gives you a sophisticated blues with stunning jazz scales and chords. I followed him from his work with Joni Mitchell to the Yellowjackets and beyond. Robben Ford, Coco Montoya, Los Lonely Boys Nov 26, 2025
Keith Pearson I´m not sure if Gypsy made it to this gig because elsewhere on this site they were listed as supporting Black Sabbath in the States the previous day. Gentle Giant / Brian Auger & Oblivion Express / EGG / Gypsy Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen As always, Tower of Power delivers with formidable funk! these guys never get old......there music will always fill the hearts of music lovers. I first saw them in Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe in 1968. They are legends! Tower Of Power Nov 26, 2025
Keith Pearson I designed the poster for this event which also included a screening of Barbarella in the college main hall. I don´t recall adding Gypsy to the bill but seem to remember including Jade or Jade Warrior. Maybe the line up was changed at the last moment, my mind is a blank when it comes to seeing either. I wonder if anyone has ever seen that poster. The copies I kept were left in an attic long ago. Gentle Giant / Brian Auger & Oblivion Express / EGG / Gypsy Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen Some songs have an introduction that will forever be recognizable.....Green Onions by Booker T is one for the ages. Booker T and the MGs Nov 26, 2025

Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen I have to say that Peter Frampton has this youthfulness that never dies. He is also one of the most lovable rock musicians in rock history. He invited the crowd to sing on numerous songs. He told us to take photos and videos without worry. In addition to his iconic songs, he also played Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden......it was outstanding! Peter Frampton Nov 26, 2025

Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen My first visit to the Vancouver Island Musicfest. I was most impressed with the variety of music that was offered from bluegrass to jazz to traditional folk to afro Celt....Adrian Belew offered some stunning instrumentals with basically a power trio....Nancy Griffith gave an hour long performance of some of her more popular songs. She has to this day, one of the sweetest female voices in rock/folk music Vancouver Island Musicfest 2010 Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen I was so helplessly enraptured with this progressive jazz group when I was in college. When Heavy Weather came out, I knew I had to see them, come hell or high water!...The jazz compositions of Wayne, Jaco, and Joe were unparalleled at the time! This was my baptism into JAZZ FUSION! This music could take you into the stratosphere with their songs like, Teen Town, Birdland, Palladium, and Black Market......I was absolutely mesmerized! Weather Report Nov 26, 2025
Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen This was one of my first big venue concerts.....My friends and I loved the Stones. We learned a lot of their early blues numbers in our rock band. Songs like: King Bee, Spider & the Fly, Mercy Mercy, and many more. They were a gritty band with attitude and that appealed to young teenage boys. We were pretty close to the stage at this concert......I was especially impressed with Bryan Jones who played multiple instruments. The Rolling Stones Nov 26, 2025
