 Paul Davey Another superb gig from Gary Numan in tragic circumstances with John passing. Raven opened the show, excellent vocals, in a heavy industrial set..Senior played the CD version of the album, including I die You die and We are glass, which were added to US version.  Bobby 'CullyRed' Cullinen No one had even heard of Santana in the summer of 1968...But after this concert, the word got out! They had these explosive latin rhythms with an amazing hammond organ player and a stylish guitar player.....they would go on to fame and fortune after this.....and, of course, they would have a premiere role in the Woodstock festival a little more than a year later.  Ily_ disappointing. Crowd felt very influencey- taking videos is fine but it was nonstop with drunk people not watching their space. Worst of all the music was very bland. Which was surprising. The energy felt high but there was nothing to grab on to. Strange feeling. Almost like the bass was muddy the entire time so there wasn't a clear groove.  Furfoxsake Sounds Magazine February 23, 1974 HUGE CAT TOUR   CAT STEVENS makes his first public appearances here since Autumn ‘72 when he starts a marathon four-month world tour at Glasgow Apollo on March 19. Cat will be touring with the same band he used for his newly-finished album — and that means he’s back with his original accompanist, guitarist Alun Davies, who subsequently left to join Mark-Almond. The full band is Alun Davies (guitar), Jean Roussel (keyboards), Bruce Lynch (bass), Gerry Conway (drums), and backing singers Sue Lynch and Joy Yeats, and the album, produced by Cat and Paul Samwell-Smith, is expected out to coincide with the start of the tour, with a single being taken from it. From Glasgow the band plays Newcastle Odeon 21, Liverpool Empire 23, Oxford New Theatre 24, London Drury Lane Theatre 27 and 28 and Coventry Theatre 31. There is a possibility of a third Drury Lane date. Linda Lewis is expected to be ‘special guest star’, playing the first half of the concerts.  Don Branson we arrived just in time for the end of Wild Belle's reggae-influenced set. she looked straight out of the 70s in a white flowing outfit. spoon was on next. they had a great set. i was only familiar with one of their songs. if you're not familar they're an alt-rock back from the late 90s with a touch of funk rhythm. we tried to guess who would be up next. i guessed wrong. Cage the Elephant appeared on a stage of steps, a wall of flames on either side. lead singer Matt Shultz stepped out in a white suit with a bee-keeper shroud over his hat. he removed it as well as many articles of clothing as set went on. he creeped and contorted as the rock star he's become doing the likes of Jagger and Mercury proud, playing to the audience and even strutting thru the crowd a few times. the music of course was awesome but combined with the stage show there was never a dull moment. Matt's niece was brought on stage and rode on the guitarist's shoulders for a song. Matt ran thru the crowd as the set ended. "we are the champions" came over the speaker and Matt stayed a few minutes on the hill and sang with the crowd. later Beck exploded on the stage with "loser", full band in tow. Darrius tells me his bassist and keyboardist are late of the 80s band Jellyfish and have been touring with him for years. all were excellent. next was "devil's haircut" and "the new pollution" for which they had a live sax player. as those are 3 of my favorite songs played in an slightly faster arrangement i super-enjoyed, i immediately wished for a live album. there was background neon flashing and graphics of Beck's artwork, etc. he slowed everything for "debra" and brought it back to the party with "wow". according to setlist.fm he did covers of "i want to take you higher", "china girl", and "search and destroy". i don't remember that but there were a few songs i didn't recognize and my musical knowledge is limiited. a crowd of beer-fueled bros danced in and out of rhythm beside us, looking as if they might breakdance if we weren't standing on dirt and grass. for the encore Beck brought Matt Shultz back up for "night running". he brought Britt Daniel from Spoon back up but i forget for what song. Matt and Wild Belle (now sporting a fancy 'scuba'-ish outfit) and bandmembers from Spoon and Cage joined Beck for an encore of "where its at" ending in a flurry of instruments and flashing lights, with Matt and Beck weirdly, wonderfully shuffling sideways off the stage like a cartoon (see video). i'd seen Cage before but their act has only gotten better. I had no idea what to expect from Beck but i was way more than pleseantly surprised. i've been a fan since "loser" in '94 and this is the 1st time i was able to see him. i think i got my money's worth from all involved and then some!
