Village Elliott I was there. My friend and I had graduated Parkway Central HS a few days prior and we were stoked. Always loved the Who, who had released "Tommy" a few weeks earlier. My Bro was hot on the Grease Band. We were both intrigued by the group that had recently released their debut album. I don't know where or from whom you received Zep's set list, bu I assure you, either they weren't there or hey are bullshitting you. THERE WAS NO SET LIST!!! Imagine our disappointmen when before Joe Cocker performed, the concert promoter informed the crowd that at the last-minute , Led Zepplin would not be.performing We were pissed. Despite loving Zep I, I quit listening performing. No explination or apology was offered. However, any concert goer was permitted a refund if they decided to fuck the concert. Most of us in the the sold out crowd were pissed, screaming "Fuck You, Led Zeppln," (I'm pissed off about it fifty-six years later!!!) Despite loving Zep I, I quit listening, unil Zep II opened with "Whole Lotta Love..." Eventually they won me back, but it was never the same. Joe Cocker was great, as were the Who Instead of listen to Led Zep I everyday, I listened to "Tommy." I forget exactly when or where I heard rumors that Zep. canceled due to an incident that occurred a few years earlier when the Yadbird performed at Wash U's Francis Field house. Reportedly an over-zealous fan in the balcony abov he stage spilled a beer on Page. Page took it personally, vowing never to play St Louis again. I took it personally because I was enrolled to attend Wash U in the fall. (Maybe there is something about this on line. Joe Cocker was great, as were the Who Instead of listen to Led Zep I everyday, I listened to "Tommy." The Who / Led Zeppelin / Joe Cocker Oct 23, 2025
Nick Rocco I met Johnny Cougar as he was known then - a name forced on him by his manager. We were back stage that evening in a battle of the bands night as John was trying to get exposure in the UK. His band was the last on and I chatted to him back stage for around 50 minutes. I had entered via the students union ( pretending to be a roadie) and just before he performed I wished him luck walked through the stage door and jumped off the stage. Years later he had his big hit with Jack & Diane as John Mellencamp but I never connect the two names as just knew him as Jonny Cougar. John Mellencamp Oct 23, 2025
