Chuck McGowan ZZ Top was in fine form this evening. Tommy Tutone got booed off the stage. El Paso crowds could be brutal. ZZ Top / tommy tutone Aug 09, 2025
Chuck McGowan Saxon blew Cheap Trick off the stage this evening. I was 18, working for a living for the first time in my life, and having a ball that summer. Went with a co-worker. Cheap Trick / Saxon Aug 09, 2025

Old Time Rocker At the beginning of this concert, I wasn’t familiar with Marshall Tucker Band, but the reaction of the crowd indicated that they outplayed the Doobies. In fact, the Doobie Brothers invited Marshall Tucker back on stage after their set for an encore. The Doobie Brothers / The Marshall Tucker Band / Elvin Bishop Aug 09, 2025
Chuck McGowan I was there, but really don't remember much about the show. I learned that Zappa's music was a bit too avant-garde for me. Frank Zappa Aug 09, 2025
Chuck McGowan I was at this show, and much like the review I attached as a photo, Molly Hatchet was completely upstaged by the opener April Wine. Jerry Mercer, April Wine's drummer, was an absolute beast on the drums. I didn't know about April Wine before this show, but learned about them real quick! Molly Hatchet / April Wine Aug 09, 2025
Chuck McGowan My first concert. I was 16 and high AF. I remember the crowd was fairly tough on The Romantics. Nugent swung in on a vine in a loincloth. I have attached a review clipped from the El Paso Times from the great Edna Gunderson. Ted Nugent / The Romantics Aug 09, 2025

Chuck McGowan I was 16 and forced to go on family vacation with my parents to Seattle. While on this vacation, I was missing my chance to see Blue Öyster Cult in my home town of El Paso, TX. I was pissed. We arrived on Wednesday. My cousin informed me that this concert was THIS SATURDAY! My mom kicked down $50 (tix were $14/head) for me and my cousin (14); he may have got a few bucks from his folks, too. That left enough for transit, food, and a t-shirt, which I still have to this day. It's a bit threadbare. I wore that shirt everywhere and definitely had bragging rights when I got home from vacation! Black Sabbath / Blue Oyster Cult / Molly Hatchet / Riot Aug 09, 2025
Chuck McGowan I saw this concert, but it was so long ago, I don't really recall much anything about it. I do remember coming away impressed with Krokus, but neither Trapeze (whom I had definitely heard before) and Nazareth did not leave much of an impression on me. And that kind of tracks with the review that appeared in the El Paso Times on May 14, 1981 (see photo). I would go on to see Krokus two more times in the coming years. Nazareth / Trapeze / Krokus Aug 09, 2025
