Galactusholmes I was there. 2nd row center. The man still had his moves. It was amazing. I didn’t see it listed but he also did “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud”. I know because I’m as white as a man can get, but was still dancing and singing along and the chick beside me got a kick out of that. One of my all time favorite shows, and I’ve been to many.  Drunken Sailor Please see comment below. John & Yoko were not on the bill (which was for 2 shows/ per night for Friday & Saturday). They came on stage for Zappa & The Mothers encore on the night of the 5th (though in the wee hours of the 6th). Frank Zappa / Yoko Ono / John Lennon / Hampton Grease Band / Head Over Heels Dec 20, 2023
Drunken Sailor Well, we got there on Saturday, the 5th for the 10 o'clock show, but didn't even get inside till after the 8 PM show crowd finally exited, so seated about 11:30. We were up front, 5th row, I think. We were there for Zappa, and to say goodbye to the Fillmore, as we did not get tickets for the Allmans. We knew to get the late show 2nd night. Sorry that I do not have much memory of the Hampton Grease Band or Head Over Heels. Zappa and the Mothers did not start playing till some time after 1 AM, as I recall, but what a set! The whole of the Mothers Live at Fillmore material, plus "Billy the Mountain" and much more. This was the night that, as noted, John & Yoko came out with the band for the encore. Frank first did his normal audience insult (everyone who goes to the Fillmore East can learn the words to this song, there is only one word: "Scumbag"), then lets John know the chords for it and off they went. Flo & Eddie start dancing around, then Kaylan puts a large burlap sack over Volman, who continues to dance around in it, so they can act out the song. Meanwhile Yoko is stage front left, doing the atonal yodeling thing into a mic. Kaylan and Volman get the burlap sack and indicate to her that they will put her in it, and she goes along with it.. and they leave her in it quite a while. The audience seems a bit more enthused about the sing-along at this point. There is quite a bit more music in the encore, but all good things must end, though it was about 5 AM by the time that they do. Got our money's worth that night.  Drunken Sailor The Music Festival was in the skating rink, with seating (top) in the rink, where the stage was set up, or (cheap) in the bleachers farther away. I have no idea what the Theatre refers to, or why United States is mispelled. Tom Rush Dec 20, 2023

Drunken Sailor Was very excited to see the Kinks again, but also Arthur Lee & Love. Don't remember much of the Quartermass set, but Arthur Lee and Love did a great job, a joy to see them. The Kinks, however, were riding high with Lola... Unfortunately, Ray showed up drunk on his ass, the rest of the band hostile to him, and they managed 17 minutes... If you read this, Ray, I want my front of the house seat tickets price back ($11 for 2 seats). I saw them many years later and it was a great show (at Virginia Tech), but the best show I ever saw them do was an earlier one at the Fillmore, when they were 2nd billed to Spirit, and blew everybody away (October 18, 1969). The Kinks / Arthur Lee and Love / Quatermass Dec 20, 2023
Drunken Sailor The band seemed a bit "disengaged". Played competently sang well, but no fire. Crowd went wild the whole night anyway. Band came out for first encore, got into it a bit more, waved and left. Came out for 2nd encore more enthused because of tremendous crowd reaction, finished and left. Lights up. NO ONE LEFT, crowd kept cheering for quite a while. Band came back out, now on fire. Played a LONG 3rd encore. Lights up, no one left again, still cheering. After a while, 4th encore and it was the best yet--they were absolutely smoking, and another fairly long encore, then they thanked everyone and left stage. Lights up, still no one leaving, still cheering. The Byrds came back out and said "Okay, but this is really it". Just played a few and slowed it down but great vibe, and then left after 5th encore. People went home very happy. One of the greatest concerts ever--though certainly did not start that way. The Byrds Dec 20, 2023
