 TheDarthGrader From LA Times September 19, 1988 MUSIC POP WEEKEND : In a Show of Mostly ‘Classic Rock,’ Joe Walsh Plays It Loose and Loony Before he played a note Friday, he dispensed a dose of his tilted commentary, telling the crowd: “You can just sit there and burp and get the mashed potatoes out of your ears.” Given Walsh’s penchant for goofiness--sometimes at the expense of everything else, including well-written songs--he could have been announcing the title of the opening number. Nah. It was just Joe establishing the show’s sometimes funny, sometimes fuzzy tone--before kicking in to “Welcome to the Club,” from his 1974 solo LP, “So What.” Two songs later, Walsh had represented the three phases of his career: He followed “Welcome” with “Walk Away” from his pre-solo days with the James Gang, then moved into “Life in the Fast Lane” from his stint with the Eagles, but not before revealing: “Don Henley’s my favorite Eagle--besides me.” The set continued to operate as a kind of greatest-hits grab bag. Which makes some sense, because at $27.50 a ticket it should be a crowd-pleaser in terms of content, especially since it was a little skimpy in length: 75 minutes. Joe Walsh Jul 14, 2024

 Gbauer10 We drove up from Costa Rica sea and went to the SB Bowl show instead of Irvine Meadows show because Bowl is way smaller. When we called to get tickets somehow I actually talked to the promoter and told him that we wanted tickets. He said he’d set 4 aside for use and took down our names and payment info. Said check with will call. We got there early and went to pick up tickets at noon. When we gave our name they said there were no tickets held. I asked to speak to promoter and he had them give us some tickets. No one was around so we hopped the fence and went to check out the seats. They’re were 3 rows from the top! We went back and I cussed out the promoter and he said to wait until partway through opening act and he’d have tickets for us. As we got ready to head down to the beach to wait suddenly a few limos pulled up and got waved through. We reclimbed the fence and went down to about 15 rows up. The Kinks came out on stage for their sound check, casually waved to us and proceeded to play several songs with just the four of us watching. Really cool! Then the promoter came through with tickets for tenth row dead center. Amazing performance by the Kinks and especially Ray Davies. I had never realized what a great frontman he was.  Dale the 13 year usher Plant & Krauss were really good. Dylan only played piano and Couldn't really hear his vocals Willie called out sick but his son, who's been playing with him for decades carried the show and was fantastic Guest appearance by Tedechi/Trucks during the Nelson Family set fit right in Outlaw Music Festival 2024 Jul 13, 2024

 Bill Wynn I originally had tickets for the Grateful Dead show on 6/21/69 but I was sick the week prior with a flu. My dad, bless him, took off from his work in Elmhurst Queens and took my Dead tickets to the Fillmore box office and exchanged them for Iron Butterfly that was on the same bill as Blues Image. Unfortunately, Iron Butterfly cancelled but the other acts put on a great show which was my first ever. My only regret I should have gone to more Fillmore shows than what I did.
