I have tickets, and possibly some photos somewhere, that shows that me and my youngest son did attend this concert at the Capitol theatre, because we had a free evening during our trip from Norway to see Steely Dan at the Beacon 3 or 4 nights that week.

Sarah McLachlan played keyboards for Melissa McClelland. We headed back to our seats after that show and someone vomited all over the seats. They upgraded us to the front row!

Sam Beam walked among the line outside. During the concert this guy kept screaming “Let the drummer kick” while he was performing…so rude!

Brilliant concert - all performers were excellent! Some great songs including The Night Johnny Cash Played San Quentin, Raining in Glasgow, Summer in Your Eyes and After the Rain; also My Father's Songs by Kirsten A.

Wonderful concert of Rachmaninoff's 4 concerto and Rhapsody. Wang continues to please me with her wonderful sound gestures, really making a difference between loud and soft and coaxing a delicate sound from the keyboard. On the other hand she sometimes bangs. Instead of a controlled forte she'll take her arm and wham it down on the keys . I guess to her it's loud, but to me it's an ugly sound. Perhaps it's also to compensate for the lack of power. Yannick leading the Philadelphia Orchestra consistently overpowered her when the full orchestra was playing. I don't think it's entirely his fault. The piano at the end of the 3rd concerto was 95% inaudible - you couldn't even hear the percussion of the hammers hitting the strings. Both Yannick and Yuja generally selected fast tempi. It can be exciting, but it also means that one can miss the details. There was a costume change before each work - a variety of sequins. I've yet to hear her in music that can test her musicality, showing her phrasing and depth of understanding. But she definitely has stellar technique.

Although Warren Haynes did not make the trip this year, it was exciting to see all the artists come for support and put on 5 nights of unforgettable jam sessions. I was extremely excited to discover Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country Band. It's a joy to see these younger bands early on. When I get older I can say "I saw those guys back in '23!"
