Gauthier Dave Matthews was His usual quirky self, phenomenal jamming and guest staring D Trucks for an epic solo but the show was hampered by lengthy dead spaces between songs which broke up the vibe.  Dennis Fetters I was there, having hitchhiked from Austin for the first-ever Astrodome rock concert. Oddly, the stage was set up near 2nd base with no seats on the field and no protective floor covering the astroturf. The crowd was expected to remain respectfully seated in the permanent seats. That didn't happen. Thousands of fans, myself included, jumped over the railing and rushed to the stage. Several announcements were made asking people to refrain from smoking on the field. That didn't happen, either. The astroturf was trashed with smoldering cigarette butts and marijuana roaches. And in my opinion, J. Geils' performance stole the show! Deep Purple / The J.
