Brucefan24 1. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles • Smokey reunited with original Miracles members, singing a medley including “Shop Around,” “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “The Tears of a Clown,” and “Going to a Go‑Go” . 2. The Temptations vs. The Four Tops • A spirited “battle of the bands” where both groups traded tops classics like “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Get Ready,” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There” . 3. Stevie Wonder • Performed a medley of hits including “Uptight (Everything’s Alright),” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours,” “My Cherie Amour,” “Sir Duke,” and “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” . 4. Marvin Gaye • Delivered an impassioned piano-led speech on Black music history and performed “What’s Going On” to thunderous applause . 5. The Jackson 5 + Michael Jackson Solo • The reunited Jackson brothers performed a medley of “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” “I’ll Be There,” followed by Michael Jackson’s iconic solo performance of “Billie Jean”, debuting the moonwalk to the world . 6. Lionel Richie & The Commodores • Richie pre‑taped “You Mean More To Me” (featuring a young sickle cell awareness poster child). Meanwhile, The Commodores performed a live rendition of “Brick House” led by Walter “Clyde” Orange, without Richie . 7. Junior Walker • Played a brief solo version of his classic “Shotgun” (without his All‑Stars) . 8. Mary Wells & Martha Reeves & the Vandellas • Mary Wells sang “My Guy”; Martha Reeves & the Vandellas performed “Heat Wave” . 9. José Feliciano • Performed “Lonely Teardrops”, bringing Latin soul to the stage . 10. Adam Ant • Covered “Where Did Our Love Go”, though critics considered it awkward and out of place among the Motown greats . 11. DeBarge & High Inergy • Representing Motown’s new wave: DeBarge performed “All This Love”, and High Inergy sang “He’s a Pretender”, even collaborating on a duet “Can’t Stop” . 12. Smokey Robinson + Linda Ronstadt • A standout duet: Smokey & Linda sang “Ooh Baby Baby” and “The Tracks of My Tears”, blending Motown with country-rock vocal grace . 13. Lester Wilson Dancers • Opened the show with the choir-style performance of “Dancing in the Street” and later “I Want You” during the overall finale with the full cast . 14. Closing Finale • All artists joined together onstage with Diana Ross to close with “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)” as the celebratory finale . ⸻ 🔍 Highlights in Summary • The special was taped live (with audience reactions) at Pasadena Civic Auditorium . • It brought together classic Motown legends (Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Miracles, The Temptations, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross) alongside newer label stars (DeBarge, High Inergy), special guest crossover acts (Adam Ant, José Feliciano), and Michael Jackson’s moonwalk moment. • Hosted by Richard Pryor, the show blended historic reunion moments, performances, speeches, and cultural memory in a two-hour TV spectacle Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever Aug 01, 2025

Ubergherkin I particularly remember this gig as it was Halloween and being an American band that loves Halloween The Lips had offered a cash prize for the best Halloween costume. I went all in and came as Frank from Donnie Darko walking sober to the gig in a onesie was a bit errk but wearing the full regalia inside for a gig was a touch mental, I ended up with dents on my forehead from my mask. Credit to another attendee who went as the Stay Puft Marshmallow man. Neither of us won, I believe a girl with spooky fingers and a possible head wound won, witch/zombie/ghoul? Bitter nope, more dazed n confused. The gig was pretty good, had to give up on the mask though, too hot and poor visibility, maybe my lack of commitment cost me?
