 Fraser Allen It was a very hot afternoon when my friends and I arrived at the first-ever Electric Heart Festival, and I'm sure it won't be the last. My only grumble was the queue for the local brewery tent, which simply wasn't big enough for demand. I'm sure that will be rectified next year. One person I would definitely like to see return is Nick Coulson, whose DJ sets throughout the day provided brilliant indie singalongs and helped create a fantastic atmosphere. Before the main bands took to the stage, we were treated to performances from The Hormones, a band of women aged 50-plus, and Rizzy and the Gents, who describe themselves on their YouTube channel as a "glam punk artist challenging identities and ideologies". Both acts provided excellent warm-ups for what was to come. First up were Sleeper, fronted by the seemingly ageless Louise Wener, such an important figure of the Britpop era. They breezed through their hits and reminded everyone what a great cover version they made of Atomic. Next came The Coral, who took the risky decision to play songs from their new album. Fortunately, they went down very well with the crowd. Finishing with In the Morning and Dreaming of You was a perfect way to end their set. As for Happy Mondays, there is something enduring about them. Bez was as entertaining as ever with his maracas, while Shaun Ryder occasionally referred to written lyrics to help him remember the words. They worked their way through their hits, and the new female singer was excellent, as were the rest of the musicians. Headliners Supergrass then delivered a blistering set packed with classics as the daylight faded. The crowd favourites, including Alright and Time, were received enthusiastically. Gaz Coombes, like Louise Wener, appears ageless despite having recently turned 50. The only downside is that, since reforming, Supergrass have yet to release any new material, although I suspect that will change at some point. The festival ended at 10:30pm, with organisers announcing its return next year using the same successful formula of indie-focused bands. Early-bird tickets are already available for £32.50. It will be interesting to see who they manage to attract for next year's line-up. Rating: 8.5/10 – A very successful debut festival with a strong line-up, a relaxed atmosphere, and only a few minor teething problems. Roll on next year.  Fraser Allen It was a lovely hot afternoon of betting and, unfortunately, losing money at Newmarket Racecourse before Madness took to the stage. The evening was made even more special by the welcome return of Chris Foreman, who has recently taken time away from the band while undergoing cancer treatment. Once again, Madness did not disappoint, treating the crowd to a journey through their extensive back catalogue of hits. Having seen this tour several times now, it was fairly easy to predict the setlist – much to the amusement of those around me, who kept asking what the next song would be. Even so, the performance remained as entertaining and enjoyable as ever. One of the things I always appreciate at a Madness concert is the diversity of the audience. Fans of all ages were there, and I would say I sat somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. It is a testament to the band's enduring appeal that they continue to attract generations of listeners. With the exception of a six-year break, Madness have been together since 1979. Given their longevity and continued popularity, I would happily wager that, illness permitting, they will still be going strong in 2029 when they celebrate their 50th anniversary as a band.
