Kurt Nielsen Part of the Kaizer Family Three generations went to see Kaizers Orchestra at the new TRAIN venue: Grandad – that’s me – and Grandma, our son and daughter, and our eldest grandchild, aged 11. We found a spot right by the stage and had a close-up view of their lively show. There is always something happening. They leap around, climb onto their oil drums and hammer away at them. Their energy spreads throughout the venue. The crowd was with them from the start in the sold-out hall. For my daughter, it was her 26th time seeing the band, and she’s going again on Saturday. For my son, it was his first. Kaizers Orchestra are a fantastic live band, and the audience sang along in their distinctive Norwegian dialect. We heard “Ompa til du dør” and “Kontroll på kontinentet” – two of their wonderfully strange hits. Their style needs to be heard and experienced. It’s hard to explain. They have been going for 25 years and spoke of their community as the Kaizer Family. We’re part of it – especially my daughter and my wife. They even travelled to Bergen to see them last year. The Swedish band Diskopunk opened the evening. They did a great job, and the singer looked like Robert Plant. A wonderful evening with the family – both our own and the wider Kaizer Family!  Chadpateman Despite its somewhat primitive cinematography (even the director's assistant puts in a cameo), Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is a show to behold -- for historical reasons as well for an element of pure aplomb. Filmed on February 4, 1975 at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, Australia, in front of 30,000 people, Wakeman, donning a cape no less, was on a mission to move mountains, adapting classic stories like the Jules Verne novel and wrapping them around progressive pretentiousness of the first order. The centerpiece -- which includes an early edition of the English Rock Ensemble along with the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Verdon Williams), the Melbourne Chamber Choir and a hip-looking narrator (!) -- is sandwiched in between selections from Wakeman's other two opuses: The Six Wives Of Henry VIII and The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table. . Together, they capture the pinnacle of the excessive passion and artistic ambition that Wakeman unabashedly gushed forth. Packaged with a CD from the very same performance (just in case the television is on the frits) Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is an intriguing spread for the curious and fans of old. Younger people might think the whole thing is a complete farce ala Spinal Tap. But hey --it was entertainment back then. Rick Wakeman Oct 17, 2026

Chadpateman On March 12, 1967 The Seekers made history when they appeared as special guests at Music for the People at the Myer Music Bowl, during Melbourne’s annual Moomba festival. The Seekers were not scheduled to perform until 3:15 pm, yet crowds started gathering at the Bowl as early as six in the morning; by ten, the Bowl was swamped with tens of thousands of people jostling for a space in the sun; and by the time The Seekers walked on stage, the Bowl had virtually disappeared under a sea of more than 200,000 people, the largest crowd in the venue’s history. In fact, The Seekers pulled the largest concert crowd in Australia’s history and the record for the largest concert crowd in the southern hemisphere. The Seekers performed ‘Come the Day’, ‘Morningtown Ride’, ‘A World of Our Own’, ‘The Leaving of Liverpool’, ‘Red Rubber Ball’, and ‘The Carnival Is Over’. For an encore, they sang ‘Georgy Girl’ and received a sustained standing ovation. The Seekers Oct 17, 2026
